Privacy policy

RemoteRise is a free, browseable job directory. We try to collect as little personal information as possible because we don't need very much, and what little we do collect we keep simple. This page explains exactly what we do and don't collect and what happens to it.

What we collect automatically

Like most websites, our web server records basic request logs whenever someone visits a page: the page that was requested, the date and time, your IP address, your browser's user-agent string, and the page that referred you (if any). These logs are kept for up to 30 days and used purely for diagnosing performance problems, debugging errors, and detecting abusive traffic. They are not shared with anyone, and they are not used to build a profile of you as an individual.

What we collect when you contact us

If you fill out the contact form or send a message through a job listing, we collect what you typed in: your name, email address, and message body. We use that information only to reply to you and to handle the request you sent (a listing correction, a scam report, a piece of feedback). We do not add you to any mailing list, we do not share your message with third parties, and we delete the message after the request is resolved.

What we don't do

We don't require accounts, don't store passwords, don't set tracking cookies for advertising, don't share data with data brokers, don't sell email addresses, and don't fingerprint your browser. The only cookies we set are strictly necessary first-party cookies used to remember basic preferences (for example, whether you've dismissed a notice). You can clear them at any time without affecting your ability to use the site.

Advertising

RemoteRise is supported by display advertising. The ad slots on each page are filled by an external advertising network, which may use its own cookies to serve ads. The choice of which advertising network we use, and the cookies it sets, are governed by that network's own privacy policy. Most major networks offer a way to opt out of personalised advertising; consult your browser's settings or the AdChoices industry control panel.

Third-party data sources

The job listings on RemoteRise come from public third-party sources (the Remotive public API and, as a fallback, public We Work Remotely listings). We re-publish those listings with a short framing of our own. We do not collect data about you from those third parties.

Children

RemoteRise is intended for users aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe we've received information from a child, please contact us and we'll delete it.

Your rights

If you live in a jurisdiction that grants you the right to access, correct, or delete personal information held about you (for example, the EU under GDPR or California under the CCPA), you can exercise those rights by contacting us. We'll respond within the timeframe required by your local law. Because we collect so little, in most cases the answer to a "what do you have on me?" request will be: a short message you sent us through the contact form, and a request log entry with your IP address from the last 30 days.

Changes to this policy

If we materially change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and refresh the "last updated" date below. We won't make a material change retroactive — your existing data will continue to be handled under the policy in force when you provided it.
